Flightpower EVO 400

Here i have tested the new Flightpower EVO20 Lipo batterys, there have been some talking of these new packs over the internet forums, some saying they are the best there is, some saying they have bad quality/performance and not genuine 20/30c cells.

The battery is put togheter real nice, with high quality, cells are perfectly matched and balanced, also all of these packs are equiped with balancing conectors, this means one can easely balance and monitor the cells with Lipo balancers like the Robbe EQlizer or Flightpowers own balancing system, this will keep the performance of the battery during its lifespan and helps the battery to last many sycels. Battery is delivered with safety information and handling precations. Building of the pack are very well done!

Flightpower EVO 20

400mah
Lipo
3,7v
48g 3s
Max recoemnded current 8A cont 12A burst
Max charge temp: 45degrees C
Max discharge temp: 60degrees C
Sice: 9x36x75mm, 3s
Recomended max charge current: 1C (0,4A)
This 3s 400mAh battery pack is light, but compared to its sice it has low capacity compared to other cells on the market, the big advantage of this battery is the very high discharge current up to 12Amp burst! this is realy impressive on a smal 48g battery pack, this gives outstanding power to weight performance in shockflyer type modells. Also these new 20c batterys regaines voltage faster after burst load than other cells.
Below testing table, the battery have been loaden in bursts of  4-6sec, after that data has been registered, Amp, Volt, Temp.
Data 3s 400 20/30c outside temp 20 degrees C
Current Amp/C  Volt Degrees Celsius
2A   11,7v 20c
3A   11,32v 20c
4A   11v 21c
5A   10,72v 21c
6A   10,36v 22c
7A   10,17v 23c
8A (20c) 9,79v (3,26v/cell) 24c
9A   9,45v 25c
10A   9,28v 27c
11A   9,11v 30c
12A  (30c) 9,10v (3,03v/cell) 31c
13A   7,95v 33c

This battery handels 30C burst load withaout any trubbel in low voltage or high temp.

Also the stated 20c continuos dicsharge has been tested, 8Amp cont load during 3min 11sec (after 2min the cells holds 9,8v, 33degrees C, 330mAh) When the cells have reached 3v/cell 413mAh have been drained and temp only 41degrees C !

These tests shows that this battery can give 80watts of continuos power and 110watts peak, also high efficiency, low temp high capacity.

Beginning of 20c contiuos test the cells first dropps in voltage (3v/cell), after some time the cells picks up voltage up to 3,26v/cell, this is after 2min testing.

Its hard to say how long the lifespan will be if one loads the cells to maximum 20/30c each flight, my guess is 60-100 sycels, but if we lower the load to 10c cont 20c burst some say that 200 charge/dischare is realistic. This far from all of my Lipo tests 12-20c the cells have a lifespan of 100-160 sycels, these new 20/30c batterys has lower internal resistant so they should hold same or more in lifetime, but also this make it more important to balance the packs.

10c continuos dischare, 4amp load untill they reach 3v/cell, capacity is 326mAh and temp only 39degrees C, if i had discharge the cells to 2,8v/cell a little more than 400mAh would have been realistic, but this will shorten the cells lifespan.

To the left you can see graps of 8A continuos (20c) discharge of the EVO 400 3s charge. Also temprature data was registered during the test, result can be found below, total discharge capacity was 382mAh.

Time min Temp degrees celsius
0 min 19c
1min 20c
2 min 25c
3,38 min 52c

To the left you can see graps of 10A continuos (25c) discharge of the EVO 400 3s charge. Also temprature data was registered during the test, result can be found below, total discharge capacity was 364mAh.

Time min Temp degrees celsius
0 min 20c
1 min 27c
2 min 29c
3 min 39c

As you can se on grapf abowe these cells perform very well on 20c continuos discharge, capacity of total 382mAh is realy impressive and a max temp of only 52c. Because of its outstanding performance on 20c continuos i tryed 25c discharge, as you can see, even with this very high load 5c over the cells recomended level, they never went under 3v/cell and temp after discharging only 39c! also still a total capacity of 364mAh.
